frequently asked questions
Below you will find a list of questions we’ve been asked about this year’s Wellington Business Expo.
First up though is a recent livestream broadcast that explains more about the Wellington Business Expo. Hear from Andy and Vanya from NZME (our Hutt Valley Chamber Platinum Partner and Expo Sponsor) and Helen, Hutt Valley Chamber CEO, discussing the Expo, the current business climate and how businesses can safely come together to help one another rebuild and reconnect.
In this short video Andy, Vanya and Helen outline how the Expo has been adapted for the Covid era we’re living in, where none of us can be certain what alert level we might be in from week to week. Hear about the digital marketing we are investing in to drive online traffic to our exhibitors own websites and digital platforms, as part of this event.
COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How are people going to connect at an online Expo, when there is no venue?
Each online exhibitor stand offers visitors the chance to leave their virtual business card to get in touch. As an added incentive to connect, exhibitors can offer a prize draw and host a livestream to connect live with our online audience.
The livestream broadcasts are run to a programme during the two-week long Expo, which will be published closer to the time. The livestream broadcasts feature exhibitors who have chosen the Premium Stand package. This is a good way for exhibitors to make the most of their stand booking.
Running alongside the online Expo are plenty of in-person events where people can meet up and network in person.
Like the traditional in-person expo we have run in previous years, there are (virtual) business card prize draws and the opportunity ot get in touch with exhibitors or network at smaller in-person events, including the Business Safari, Business Economist Breakfast, Health and Financial Wellness Forum, Manufacturing Forum and Education to Careers Showcase. To end the expo we finish with the larger networking event we run each year.
As opposed to a one day in-person business expo at a physical venue, an expo in this format means exhibitor stands will remain online for up to 12 months, until our next Wellington Business Expo.
How is it marketed? Do you just put it online and hope people will come?
The Wellington Business Expo is run by the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce and backed by a number of sponsors including Hutt Valley Chamber Platinum partners, NZME, home to NZ Herald, Newstalk ZB, The Hits, ZM and more. NZME are advertising the Wellington Business Expo 2020 on radio stations and the Herald online in the lead up to the expo.
The Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce is also promoting the expo through their own social media channels and Google Ads. They have also engaged the services of an external PR agency which is promoting the expo through media releases and local magazine, Vibrant Hutt.
Is it just for Chamber members?
The Wellington Business Expo is for everyone in business. It is a well-established business to business event now in its 10th year.
What's the return on investment?
Because this year’s Expo is online, it continues beyond a single day (at a physical location). The Wellington Business Expo will stay online for up to a year, until next year’s Wellington Business Expo, so exhibitor stands will remain live for an extended time period. This year’s online business Expo will also be used to promote next year’s event.
For a price point example, a booking of the Basic Package at $195 + GST equates to $19.50 in advertising spend per month, if the Expo were to remain online for 10 months.
Is there an easy way to find a specific industry, e.g. packaging, without going through the entire website?
We are working behind the scenes to enable a search by category function to make this possible. All exhibition stands go live on the first day of the Expo (12 October), appearing on a single page with search or by topic functionality. Bear with us as this is the first time we have run this event online and we are ironing out some of these finer details behind the scenes.
What is the difference between this offer and someone wanting to find us via Google?
The Wellington Business Expo is a well-established business to business event. It is a place for businesses to come together and make connections, discover new suppliers and business opportunities.
Traditionally the main event of the Wellington Business Expo has been an in-person event, however due to Covid, this year instead of being at a physical location, the Expo is far broader, featuring a range of smaller in-person events running throughout the course of the Expo, alongside the online exhibitor stands. The exhibitor stands are a snapshot of each business making it easy for visitors to navigate a good range of local businesses to find relevant and local connections they are looking for.
How do I set up my stand?
This is what we need from you:
- Your logo at least 300px wide
- Images at least 800px wide. Don’t worry about the heights. A mix of portrait and landscape images will work best
- Your business blurb: 250 words maximum
- Your contact details: website, contact phone number, contact email
- YouTube url for your video (for packages 2 and 3), or MP4
- Your expo prize for your prize draw
We take care of it all for you. Take a look at any of the sponsors stands to see how your stand will look. Here is a PDF you can print, which outlines the Wellington Business Expo, and includes a description of stand options.
Can I change the colour behind my photos on my online stand? The red doesn’t match my branding
The online stands are part of the Wellington Business Expo website template and cannot be changed. The colours are also to match the branding of the Wellington Business Expo. Take a look at any of the sponsors stands to see how your stand will look.
What height do you need the images? What about the file size or dpi?
We can resize your images so please just make sure they match the minimum dimensions of 300px wide for your logo and 800px wide for your images. At these sizes, the dpi won’t affect the quality of your images as long as it is a minimum of 72dpi.
Don’t worry about the height dimensions. A mix of landscape and portrait images will showcase your business best but we can work wtih whatever you have. We will send you a link so you can see your stand before it goes live.
Why this model for the Expo?

- 35% of businesses want events that bring the business community together
- 38% want help with finding new business, a third of businesses are introducing new flexible working hours
- Almost 30% are looking for new ways to work online, and
- 38% of businesses have staff working from home.
Our business working models have been massively disrupted and to best meet the needs our business community we have adapted our model accordingly to safely give our local businesses every opportunity to come together and find new business, at a time to suit.
