lower hutt business safari

19 oCTOBER 2020

Our Lower Hutt safari included a behind the scenes tour of Myriad Engineering, Precise Traffic Solutions and Stansborough factory; three very different and unique businesses achieving great things in the Valley.

First up on our tour was Myriad Engineering, a long-established manufacturing engineering company, that’s been operating since 1972.

Guests met Mark and Fiona Wilson, owners of Myriad Engineering and got up close to the latest technology in manufacturing. Myriad Enginering work with other manufacturers to design and manufacture component parts for a huge range of industries, which are used here in New Zealand and offshore. Myriad Engineering was an essential service during lockdown earlier in the year.

Watching the range of machinery being used was fascinating and included the latest CNC milling technology from international giant, Doosan which Mark and Fiona invested in during 2019.

Our next stop was Precise Traffic Solutions (PTS). Fabulous to learn what this company is doing to help young people into local employment.

It was great to meet many of the PTS team. This is a company that invests heavily in its people and its culture, with a gym onsite for use by staff and their families. We’ll be sure to see many of their purple trucks out and about, with contracts across the entire Wellington region. PTS are on numerous sites and we saw their superb technology up close which they use to manage all their projects.

Our last stop on the Lower Hutt Business Safari was Stansborough’s textile factory, where they weave fabrics created from their own flock of unusual and rare sheep, that date back to the Vikings.

It was quite extraordinary to see the mill in operation. The equipment itself was recovered from Petone Woollen Mills and dates back to 1890. This equipment is still being used today, now manufacturing the most exquisite fabrics. Tours of this site are normally the domain of cruise ships visiting New Zealand so guests were very fortunate to see the site in person. What an excellent opportunity to see a real gem of a business that’s been made famous worldwide, creating costumes for characters in blockbuster movies.

We have some outstanding businesses across our region. These business safaris provide such a fabulous opportunity to meet the people driving new local developments and celebrate our vibrant business community, in a fun and relaxed manner.
